consular processing

Beneficiaries of employment or family petitions who are outside the United States, or
those who fall within, but are not eligible for Adjustment of Status must complete
twelve steps for a consular interview, in order to obtain an immigrant visa, and enter the country as an immigrant or resident.

          Send the request

Once approved, Immigration notifies the National Visa Center.

          Start the process with NVC

The National Visa Center handles all processing through a platform called the Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC).

          Make payments

The system will issue two invoices or "Invoice" for two amounts. $325.00 corresponding to the processing of the visa and $120.00 to the affidavit of economic sponsorship or "Affidavit of Support"

          Affidavit of Support

The petitioner must submit the I-864 form even if he does not have sufficient income

          Supporting financial documents

These are usually: most recent year's tax return, employment letter, most recent year's W-2 form.

          DS-260 Immigrant Visa Registration

This record contains all the biographical information of the immigrant beneficiary.

          Two collection of civil documents

The National Visa Center will request the corresponding civil documents in each case. They will indicate which government authorities would issue said documentation.

          Scan civil documents

          Upload documents to CEAC

Preparation for the interview at the United States embassy

Once the documents are complete, the National visa Center proceeds to schedule the interview for the adjudication or will make the decision on each case

          Interview

The interview must be attended by the beneficiaries and in most cases the petitioners or applicants. If so, the summons letter will indicate it.

Applicants will be responsible for bringing the following documents to the embassy:

» summons letter you received from the National Visa Center

» original passport valid within the following 6 months minimum

» two passport size color photographs white background

» Confirmation page confirmation of the form DS-260

» all original civil documents with the specifications indicated in the summons

It is important to remember that all documents that are not written in English must come with their proper translation.

           After the interview
If the applicants receive an approval, the passport will be returned via the courier service with an immigrant visa that is valid for one year to enter the United States. Once the immigrants enter the country, they will be responsible for paying the fee that corresponds to the processing of the residence card, also known as the “Immigrant Fee”.
